Kentucky’s Paducah Symphony Orchestra and the Peoria Symphony in Illinois have each announced candidates for music director searches to take place during the 2009-10 season. The four finalists for Paducah’s artistic director position are Frank Collura, Janna Hymes, Raffaele Ponti, and Glen Cortese; each will lead a concert during the season. The winning conductor will begin his or her term in the 2010-11 season, replacing Jordan Tang, who has led the orchestra for 23 years. The Peoria Symphony has announced seven finalists for its music director position: Michael Butterman, Sarah Hicks, Morihiko Nakahara, Leslie B. Dunner, George Stelluto, Robert Franz, and Brett Mitchell. Each will conduct one of Peoria’s seven 2009-10 subscription concerts. David Commanday, Peoria’s most recent music director, led the orchestra from 1999 to 2008, before taking on his current position of artistic director with the New Jersey Youth Symphony.
