A report Tuesday (1/8) on the Falls Church News-Press online (Virginia) states, “George Mason High School announces that seniors Carrie Gudenkauf and Tyler Water’s original compositions have been selected for Opus 25. Opus 25 is a concert of original student compositions performed by professional musicians. Over 7,000 students currently participate in this unique program which imbeds music composition into the lives of students. Over 70 compositions were submitted for this upcoming event featuring various instrument combinations with brass, percussion, piano and voice. Carrie and Tyler’s pieces, along with 19 other compositions, were selected for performance after the audition process. On Monday, both of Carrie and Tyler’s pieces were premiered by professional Vermont symphony musicians at Elley-Long Music Center at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester [Vermont]. Carrie and Tyler were able to video chat with the professional musicians and discuss the interpretation of their works prior to the premiere of their works to a full house at Elley-Long Music Center. Carrie is an accomplished pianist and is currently a senior at GMHS. Carrie’s piece, ‘Historiography’ is written for piano solo. Tyler is an accomplished percussionist and is also a senior this year. Tyler’s piece, ‘Brother, Brother’ is written for vibraphone and marimba.”
