Olympics.com has been tracking the progress of the Olympics torch from Marseille to Paris, where the 2024 Games will take place. On Monday (5/3), an unsigned article on Olymics.com reported that “a total of 90 torchbearers took their turn this Sunday throughout the Deux-Sèvres region … from Thouars to Niort…. Among the torchbearers were Clément Garreau, French judo champion … Thomas Courjault, captain of his Regional level 1 football team, and Stéphanie Rose, who employs sport to combat rheumatoid arthritis. They also met several celebrities, including Sébastien Bichon, who won a cycling medal at the Sydney Paralympic Games … and Fabrice Chagnon, French and European land sailing champion. The famous violinist and conductor Renaud Capuçon was also on hand in Niort.” On his Facebook page on Monday, Capuçon posted, “What a joy and honor to have been chosen to carry the Olympic flame yesterday in Niort! Thank you all for this amazing and timeless moment. Happy to have been part of this beautiful Paris 2024 Olympic Games celebration.” Capuçon was named a UNESCO Artist for Peace in September 2020.
