Russia’s International Tchaikovsky Competition, now underway in Moscow and St. Petersburg through July 3, is being streamed live for free at Medici TV. Competitors in piano, violin, and cello are currently in the first round of the competition, which is held at the Moscow Conservatory, the small hall of the Saint Petersburg Philharmonia, and Mariinsky Concert Hall in St. Petersburg. Contestants from the United States include pianists George Li and Reed Tetzloff, violinist Stephen Jee Won Kim, and cellists Brannon Cho and John-Henry Crawford. The awards ceremony will take place on July 1 at Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Concert Hall; winners’ concerts will be held on July 2 in Moscow and on July 3 in Saint Petersburg. The International Tchaikovsky Competition is held every four years for pianists, violinists, and cellists between 16 and 30 years of age, and singers between 19 and 32 years of age.
