Thursday (7/21) on WVPubcast, the West Virginia Public Broadcasting website, Mona Seghatoleslami writes, “This weekend, the Huntington Symphony will play its first concert since budget constraints led to a temporary hiatus and cancellation of a concert in April. This is the 25th year for the orchestra’s outdoor summer ‘Picnic with the Pops’ concerts. This spring, the future of these concerts—or any performances by the Huntington Symphony Orchestra—seemed uncertain. Behind on fundraising goals, the orchestra cancelled the final concert of its 2010-11 season and focused on raising money to keep itself alive. Pledged donations now put the Huntington Symphony over the $100,000 goal of the orchestra’s ‘Save the Music Campaign.’ Executive director Hogan Haas says the orchestra will continue to fundraise to sustain the orchestra’s operations. … The Huntington Symphony Orchestra will perform outdoors again later this summer on August 20—in a concert featuring vocalists Ryan Hardiman and Marina Jurica. The orchestra’s regular season will begin October 8th with a concert at Marshall University’s Smith Hall, followed by a holiday concert in December.”
