The pending closure of the long-running Philly Pops orchestra “should set off alarms” for the cultural sector, writes Peter Dobrin in Thursday’s Philadelphia Inquirer. However, Dobrin continues, while the damage is real, the situation offers orchestras and other arts groups opportunities to rethink finances, become more equitable and inclusive, engage local communities, and experiment with fresh approaches to programming.
