The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in Canada will present its third International Conducting Symposium from January 10 to 13, 2010. The four-day event will be limited to twelve full participants and twenty auditors; the deadline for applications is November 20. Repertoire for the symposium will include Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 (complete), Mozart’s Symphony No. 41 (movements 2 and 4), Brahms Symphony No. 4 (movement 4), Dvorák’s Symphony No. 9 (movement 4), Verdi’s Overture to La Forza del Destino, and Vincent Ho’s Aboard the Amundsen. Faculty for the symposium will include Larry Livingston (professor of conducting, USC Thornton School of Music), Alexander Mickelthwate (music director, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra), Alexis Hauser (conductor, McGill Symphony Orchestra), Richard Lee (resident conductor, WSO), Stephen Lugosi (vice president conductors and artists, Thea Dispeker International Artists Management), Debbie Devine (acting coach, Los Angeles), Morley Walker (arts columnist, Winnipeg Free Press ), Trudy Schroeder (executive director, WSO), and Jean-François Phaneuf (director of artistic operations, WSO).
