This month the Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus in Georgia has been conducting “Maestro for a Moment,” in which three candidates from the community are vying for a chance to conduct the orchestra during YOGC’s final spring concert, for one dollar per vote. All funds raised go to support the Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus. The winning candidate—determined by online vote at YOGC’s website—will lead the musicians at the orchestra’s April 30 concert at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts in downtown Columbus. The three candidates are Georgia Representative John Pezold; former Columbus Mayor Bob Poydasheff; and actress and educator Dusty Wellborn. The YOGC string and symphony orchestras, comprising middle- and high-school musicians from Georgia’s Chattahoochee Valley, perform three public concerts a season, as well as educational concerts for elementary schoolchildren.
