Artistic and Music Director Donato Cabrera leads the California Symphony.

In last Monday’s (4/22) El Diablo Magazine (San Francisco East Bay), Deborah Kirk writes, “The artistic and music director of the California Symphony since 2013, Donato Cabrera is a leading light in the local cultural scene. In addition to his role with Cal Symphony, which performs throughout the year at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, the award-winning conductor also serves as the music director of the Las Vegas Philharmonic and conducts opera performances at venues throughout the world. Here, the multifaceted maestro speaks with Diablo about his vision for broadening the appeal of classical music. Cabrera: When I program a concert, I think about my family. I am not from a particularly musical family, so I always imagine what would inspire them to attend a concert and then come back again…. Onstage, I share a story about every piece on the program, so people feel connected…. Cal Symphony needs to expand the amount we offer to the East Bay community, and not just concerts for adults but also our educational initiatives for kids. I’d love to bring busloads of kids into the Lesher Center and offer special programs.”
