Violinist PATRICIA KOPATCHINSKAJA has been named artistic partner at the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, effective in the 2014-15 season. As part of the SPCO’s artistic leadership she will join the four current artistic partners: conductors Roberto Abbado and Edo de Waart, pianist/conductor Christian Zacharias, and violinist/conductor Thomas Zehetmair. Active as a concert soloist, chamber musician, and recording artist, Kopatchinskaja has collaborated regularly with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and has appeared with the Cologne and Finnish radio symphonies, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecelia, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and Australian Chamber Orchestra. A native of Moldova currently living in Bern, Switzerland, she was the recipient, in 2012, of a Praetorius Musikpreis Niedersachsen Award in the category of innovation. The SPCO will be the first major American orchestra to present her in concert; Kopatchinskaja’s initial project with the orchestra will focus on interweaving traditional folk and classical music influenced by Eastern European culture.
