The Marin Symphony in California is reporting a surplus for the fiscal year ended on June 30, 2014, during which it received an anonymous $250,000 unrestricted gift and raised a total of $1,244,887 in contributed revenue. The orchestra also reported a 45 percent increase in the total number of donors compared to fiscal year 2013. Under Executive Director Jeff vom Saal, the orchestra has added family-oriented programming and pops presentations such as an annual Waterfront Pops Concert at the Marin Center Lagoon Park, as part of an effort to reach a new demographic of Marin community members. “We are thrilled and humbled by the response from the community,” said Music Director Alasdair Neale. “The orchestra is performing at their highest level in my thirteen-year tenure, and I’m really proud of what they’ve accomplished this season. We’ve asked a lot of them and they have certainly stepped up to the challenge.”
