Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City has launched Family-Linc, a program designed to encourage families with financial or other barriers to the arts to attend performances in dance, theater, orchestral music, and opera on a regular basis. In partnership with social service agencies across the city, Lincoln Center is offering prime orchestra-level seats at weekend performances by its constituent organizations at deeply discounted ticket prices: $10 each. The program is funded by Shelly Lazarus, a Lincoln Center board member, and her husband, George Lazarus. The first Family-Linc event, on December 14, included a holiday reception for families, art activities, a tour of the Lincoln Center campus, and a New York City Ballet performance of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker for which 200 Family-Linc tickets were distributed. Families eligible for the program will choose from a dozen other Lincoln Center offerings from February through May 2015. Each visit will include behind-the-scenes experiences led by Lincoln Center Education teaching artists or staff members from Lincoln Center’s constituent organizations.
