“Symphoria’s announcement for the 2015-2016 season was kicked off with a video before its final Masterworks concert at Crouse Hinds Theater tonight,” writes Melinda Johnson in Sunday’s (5/10) Post-Standard (Syracuse, New York). Symphoria was launched in 2012, after the fifty-year-old Syracuse Symphony Orchestra filed for bankruptcy in 2011. “The orchestra’s third concert season will be filled with celebrations—of firsts, anniversaries and partnerships. Symphoria offers five series: Masterworks, Pops, Casual, Spark and Kids as season subscriptions or single tickets. Three separate special events also are planned. Lawrence Loh, Symphoria’s first music director, will conduct seven of the eight Masterworks concerts. He also will be on the podium for several concerts in the Pops and Casual series. Symphoria will mark the 125th anniversary of Civic Morning Musicals and the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. Acrobats figure into one of the Pops and the Spark concerts. Music from movies and Broadway will be featured during the Pops series. As previously announced, renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman will perform with Symphoria at 3 p.m. Nov. 1.… Perlman will play Beethoven’s Violin Concerto.” Symphonia was one of four orchestras in Symphony magazine’s fall 2014 article about new orchestras that have been formed after the dissolution of previous ensembles.
