The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia has announced a memorial service honoring the life and legacy of cellist James “Jimmy” Holesovsky, a longtime member of the orchestra who died June 27 at the age of 72. The service is scheduled for 7 pm on Tuesday, September 29 at the Church of the Holy Trinity, located at 1904 Walnut Street in Philadelphia, with a reception to follow at the Academy of Vocal Arts, 1920 Spruce Street. A native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, who grew up in Philadelphia, Holesovsky joined the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia at age 22 while still a student at the Curtis Institute of Music, and served in the chamber orchestra as a principal and section cellist for fifty years. He played for numerous other organizations in the city as well, including the Academy of Vocal Arts, Philly Pops, Pennsylvania Ballet, Opera Philadelphia, Mendelssohn Club, and Philadelphia Singers. Holesovsky’s career also included 30 years as principal cellist in the Santa Fe Opera. The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia has established a James Holesovsky Memorial Fund.
