“The Pacific Symphony today announced plans for its 38th classical season, and 10th anniversary of Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall,” writes Timothy Mangan in Tuesday’s (1/26) Orange County Register (California). “The schedule is designed in part to commemorate the orchestra’s decade of residency in the acoustically rich venue…” Under Music Director Carl St.Clair, soprano Renée Fleming will join the orchestra September 13 for Strauss’s Four Last Songs and a selection of “popular operatic and Broadway repertoire.” The regular season opens Sept. 22-24 with pianist Olga Kern, on a program that also includes a new work by Conrad Tao and Respighi’s The Pines of Rome. The annual American Composers Festival, set for April 6-9, will include Peter Boyer’s Ellis Island: The Dream of America and John Adams’s The Dharma at Big Sur. Concerto for Four Winds, a new work by Composer-in-Residence Narong Prangcharoen to be performed Oct. 20-23, will feature first-desk players from the orchestra. February offerings include three semi-staged performances of Verdi’s Aida. Also scheduled for 2016-17 are works by Tan Dun and Einojuhani Rautavaara, and, to close the season June 8-11, Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, “Resurrection.” The season’s guest conductors are Rune Bergmann, David Danzmayr, Darrell Ang, and Jean-Marie Zeitouni.
