The first Ear Taxi Festival is set to take place from October 5 to 10 in venues throughout Chicago. The contemporary classical music festival will feature more than 300 musicians, 88 composers, 25 ensembles, and 53 world premieres. Performers will include pianist Patricia Barber, the International Contemporary Ensemble, and members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Spektral Quartet, Third Coast Percussion, Ensemble Dal Niente, Chicago Harp Quartet, Arcomusical, and Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music Contemporary Ensemble. The festival will encompass sound installations, new works, lectures, webcasts, and a weekend “new music marathon” at the Chicago Cultural Center, coinciding with the Chicago Marathon on October 9. The festival is spearheaded by composer and University of Chicago Professor Augusta Read Thomas, who is curating the festival with conductor Stephen Burns. More information here.
