“Elizabeth Sobol, a veteran of the classical music and recording industry, has been hired by the Saratoga Performing Arts Center to lead the venue into its sixth decade,” writes Joseph Dalton in Thursday’s (8/18) Times Union (Albany, N.Y.; subscription required). “Sobol begins Oct. 1 [and] will hold the title of president and CEO, succeeding Marcia White…. The venue … is also the summer home of the New York City Ballet, the Philadelphia Orchestra and hosts pop acts…. [Sobol] spent three decades in management at IMG Artists, … where she guided careers of … Itzhak Perlman, Joshua Bell, Renee Fleming, James Galway, Evgeny Kissin and Kiri Te Kanawa…. Most recently Sobol served for three years as president and CEO of Universal Music Classics.… Sobol will be relocating [from Miami] to Saratoga along with her husband, the Cuban jazz pianist Jorge Gomez, who leads the Grammy-nominated band Tiempo Libre.” Sobol says she is imagining “new ways to collaborate with organizations in Saratoga and beyond…. ‘I was trained as a pianist, and classical music is in my DNA and my soul, but I love great music of many kinds—pop, hip-hop or jazz. I’m always looking for the best.’ ”
