The Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra, a community orchestra based in Wisconsin, will perform four concerts during its 2016-17 season, opening on November 18 with Music Director David Anderson leading Sibelius’s Finlandia and Mahler’s Symphony No. 1. The season will conclude on May 20 with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1, preceded by a multimedia exploration of Beethoven’s music. During the season David McGill, former principal bassoon of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and a professor at Northwestern University, will be in residence, with musicians from the orchestra applying concepts from McGill’s 2009 book Sound in Motion to the season’s repertoire. McGill will lead two masterclasses, during which he will work with the bassoon section on the first half and with the woodwind section and the entire orchestra on the second half. The masterclasses, on November 10 and March 9, are free and open to the public. Anderson will work with LGSO musicians during rehearsal to demonstrate concepts from the book and host an online discussion forum.
