The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra has added ALEJANDRO GÓMEZ GUILLÉN and JACOB JOYCE to its conducting staff, effective with the 2017-18 season.
Alejandro Gómez Guillén, the orchestra’s new associate conductor, will lead the orchestra in community and regional touring concerts that take place outside of Bass Performance Hall. Guillén is currently artistic director of the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra in Indiana and a Freeman Conducting Fellow with the Chicago Sinfonietta. Guillén, also a violinist, previously served as the Boulder (Colorado) Symphony’s associate conductor and as concertmaster of the Grand Junction (Colorado) Symphony Orchestra, the Amherst (Massachusetts) Early Music Festival, and the Junges Stuttgarter Bach Ensemble in Germany. He has previously held a fellowship with SphinxConnect and a residency in Colombia with Batuta, that country’s El Sistema-inspired music education program.
Jacob Joyce, a conductor and violinist from Ann Arbor, Michigan, will serve as the orchestra’s Conducting Fellow. Joyce is currently a cover conductor for the Handel and Haydn Society of Boston and previously was associate conductor of the Yale Symphony Orchestra and music director of the Opera Theatre of Yale College. He has also worked with the New England Conservatory Contemporary Ensemble and has performed with Hub New Music (Boston), Cantata Profana (Brooklyn), and the Yale-based group Sicinc. Joyce holds bachelor’s degrees in music and economics from Yale University, and a master of music degree in violin performance from the Yale School of Music.
