The Florida Orchestra’s first radio broadcast of the 2017-18 season will air on October 19 on WSMR 89.1 & 103.9 FM and online at wusf.usf.edu, through the orchestra’s new partnership with WUSF Public Media and Classical WSMR radio. The broadcast—featuring Music Director Michael Francis leading Tippett’s Ritual Dances from The Midsummer Marriage and Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay—was recorded during the orchestra’s opening-night performances earlier this month. Thirteen broadcasts will be aired at 7 p.m. on selected Thursdays through May. Broadcasts will be a combination of Masterworks concerts recorded live this season at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa and the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, and archival recordings from TFO’s 50-year history. Segments will be hosted by WSMR’s Russell Gant and feature commentary from Michael Francis and others.
