In Sunday’s (10/25) Cincinnati Enquirer, Jackie Demline writes, “The Cincinnati-based American Classical Music Hall of Fame announces five inductees in 2009, including May Festival music director James Conlon. Other new Hall of Fame members are composer John Adams, international violinist Midori, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the League of American Orchestras. Conlon is music director of the Los Angeles Opera and Ravinia Music Festival in Chicago, as well as May Festival. … Founded in 1891, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra has amassed a discography numbering more than 900. Recordings by the symphony have earned 58 Grammy Awards, more than any other orchestra in the world. … The League of American Orchestras leads, encourages, supports and serves orchestras. Founded in 1942, the League of American Orchestras serves more than 900 member symphony, chamber, youth, and university orchestras of all sizes and has launched new initiatives in research and development, advocacy and communications, and learning and leadership development that are enhancing orchestras’ ability to adapt to changing environments.”
