DAVID WECHSLER has been named director of education at the InterSchool Orchestras of New York. He is the first to occupy the newly created position. Wechsler received a doctor of musical arts degree from the CUNY Graduate Center in 2012, and is on the faculty of the College of Staten Island, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, and Poly Prep Country Day School. Wechsler is music director of the OMNI Ensemble, a chamber music group he co-founded in 1983, and has served in administrative positions at the New York Flute Club and Connecticut Grand Opera. He has served as a band director at Stuyvesant High School, Public School 193 and 154 in Brooklyn, NY; as a school woodwind coach for the Brooklyn Philharmonic and the Queens Symphony; as a youth orchestra conductor of the Community Bridge Orchestra at the JCC in Staten Island; as a flute teacher at Long Island University and SUNY at Stony Brook; and as an adjunct lecturer at Brooklyn College. Wechsler played flute in the Connecticut Grand Opera and the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and has many additional orchestral credits. Wechsler has performed in the orchestras of musical theater works, plays for film and TV, and is active as a composer.
