The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has appointed EARL LEE as associate conductor, effective in September. Additionally, the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra has named Lee music director for the 2018-20 seasons. Lee is currently resident conductor of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and artistic director and conductor of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra. Lee participated in the 2016 Bernard Haitink Masterclass at the Lucerne Easter Festival and the Kurt Masur Conducting Seminar in New York. He received a 2013 Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Scholarship and a 2013 Ansbacher Conducting Fellowship Award. As a cellist, Lee has toured with chamber groups and jazz artists, and has appeared at leading summer music festivals. He is currently a member of the conductorless East Coast Chamber Orchestra. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School with degrees in cello, Lee began conducting studies in 2010. He received his master’s in conducting from the Manhattan School of Music in 2013, and continued post-graduate conducting studies at the New England Conservatory prior to joining the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
