The Hartford Symphony Orchestra announced that it has successfully met a challenge by a group of anonymous donors to raise $750,000 between June 20 and December 31, 2018 through a new Music Builds Community (MBC) Campaign. The challenge, which required $750,000 in new MBC commitments by the December 31 deadline, unlocked a $1 million gift. The goal of Music Builds Community is to raise $10,000,000 by 2022, of which MBC has now raised $7,414,049. The challenge gift, made to honor and celebrate the HSO’s 75th season in 2018-19, will help fulfill the three main goals set forth by the campaign committee: $6.0 million to build the HSO’s endowment; $2.0 million to increase Education and Community Engagement programs; and $2.0 million to create innovative programs introducing orchestral music to new audiences.
