On May 13, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players will perform contemporary chamber and solo works at Princeton University’s new Lewis Arts Complex, including Princeton-based composer Juri Seo’s Sunlight, a commissioned world premiere. Seo will curate the concert, conducted and hosted by Steven Mackey. Also on the program: Unsuk Chin’s ParaMetaString for string quartet and tape; Jonathan Harvey’s Curve with Plateaux for solo cello, featuring NJSO Assistant Principal Cello Na-Young Baek; Olivier Messiaen’s “Interstellar Call” from Des Canyons aux étoiles for solo horn, featuring NJSO Principal Horn Chris Komer; Tristan Murail’s Seven Lakes Drive; and Reynold Tharp’s San Francisco Night. In addition to performing chamber concerts at Princeton University, the NJSO also operates the annual Edward T. Cone Composition Institute at Princeton, now heading into its sixth year, led by Steven Mackey. In July, the institute will include readings and performances of works by contemporary composers Dan Caputo, Patrick O’Malley, Iván Enrique Rodríguez, and Bora Yoon.
