Music Director Scott Speck will conduct the West Michigan Symphony and violinist Chee-Yun in a video concert by the orchestra’s string musicians on July 17 at 7:30 p.m. The concert—available to subscribers and ticket holders in the West Michigan Symphony’s Virtual Concert Hall—will be performed without an audience at the Frauenthal Center and feature Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and Astor Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. During the pandemic, the orchestra has produced several video concerts with local filmmaker Arvin Candelaria, with sound engineering by Blue Lake Public Radio’s Steve Albert. For the July 17 concert, as with the earlier virtual performances, WMS will observe safety protocols during rehearsals and filming, in cooperation with the Frauenthal Center management. Each player will be checked for symptoms and temperatures taken before entering the venue, which remains closed to the public. On July 15, Speck hosted Chee-Yun for a free pre-concert virtual “Lunch ‘n Learn” at the orchestra’s Facebook page and its free online Listening Room.
