Los Angeles Philharmonic Music Director Gustavo Dudamel will be the focus of a 60 Minutes segment this Sunday, May 16, marking the third time he has been featured on the program. Reporter Bob Simon will center his discussion around Dudamel’s efforts to transplant El Sistema—the Venezuelan youth orchestra system through which Dudamel was educated—to the U.S. Among existing U.S. youth programs modeled on El Sistema to be featured on the 60 Minutes segment are the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s OrchKids year-round afterschool program.
