On January 16, Ohio’s Firelands Symphony Orchestra will present “Portraits of American Heroism,” a pops concert honoring all veterans and active military, with special recognition to the Tuskegee Airmen, at Sandusky High School Auditorium. Music Director Carl Topilow will conduct the program, featuring selections including the Suite from Glory, patriotic songs, and music by John Williams, Glenn Miller, and others. Vocalist Tricia Tanguy, a Northwest Ohio native, will be among guest performers. The concert features special recognition of Colonel Harold Brown, a Sandusky local and retired U.S. Army Air Force officer who was a World War II combat fighter pilot with the Tuskegee Airmen, the first Black military aviators in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Brown will also be a guest narrator for the concert. The FSO has partnered with Liberty Aviation Museum to showcase a lobby display and a uniformed Women’s Army Corp re-enactor. Concert audiences will be required to proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or documentation of a recent negative PCR COVID test; all audience members must wear face coverings.
