In Sunday’s (10/17) Fort Worth Star-Telegram (Texas), Punch Shaw writes, “Symphony Arlington is celebrating its 10th season with a move to a new venue, the Arlington Music Hall—also the home of the popular Johnnie High’s Country Music Revue—on Thursday night. But while the orchestra may be setting up in its new home, don’t expect it to settle in. This orchestra is, by nature, nomadic. ‘We affectionately refer to ourselves as the Las Garlington Symphony Orchestra,’ said Jon Lee, principal timpanist for Symphony Arlington—and the Garland Symphony and the Las Colinas Symphony. On Thursday nights, Lee and his fellow musicians are Symphony Arlington. On Friday nights, they take their tuxes and instruments to Garland. And on Saturday nights, the exact same ensemble heads to Las Colinas. Music director and conductor Robert Carter Austin is on the podium all three nights. But each orchestra has it own administrative office and full-time general manager. … Austin said the new space for Symphony Arlington will provide the musicians and the audience a more enjoyable experience.”
