In a first-person article in Canada Today News, Mark Williams, chief executive officer of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, writes about representation, inclusion, and changing perceptions of classical music as he settles into his role as the first Black man to lead a major North American orchestra: “Ultimately, my dream is for the audience for every TSO concert to look like Toronto—with the diversity, texture, fun and depth that this city has. Because when that happens, I know this organization serves everyone and is from the city. And that must always be the goal of a large cultural organization.”
