A report Thursday (9/1) on the Ohio Valley news site Vindy.com states, “It looks like Trans-Siberian Orchestra won’t be coming to Youngstown this year. … But fans who’ve come to expect an annual dose of the grandiose group—which mixes screaming guitars and big vocals with the warmth and power of an orchestra—won’t be left out in the cold. The Youngstown Symphony Orchestra will fill the void with the world premiere of ‘Rock Fusion.’ Like TSO, the show mixes classic rock with a symphony, and is delivered with over-the-top flair. In fact, TSO lead singer Rob Evan and former TSO guitarist Alex Skolnick will be part of ‘Rock Fusion.’ So will the Dana Chorale, the full Youngstown Symphony Orchestra and a band that includes keyboards, bass and drums. ‘Rock Fusion’ was conceived and arranged by Randall Craig Fleischer, music director and conductor of the YSO. He will also play keyboards at the show, which will be Oct. 1 at Powers Auditorium. Trans-Siberian starts with a soaring rock sound and adds a string section. But Fleischer said ‘Rock Fusion’ is a little different. He called it Youngstown’s introduction to a full symphonic/rock fusion project.”
