The Solti Foundation has named five recipients of its 2012 Career Assistance Awards, given to recognize, encourage, and provide assistance to young American conductors at the start of their professional careers. The recipients, who each receive a $5,000 award, are Yaniv Attar, winner of the Duna Szimfonikus Conducting Competition, based in Romania; Vladimir Kulenovic, associate conductor of the Utah Symphony Orchestra; Nicholas Hersh, a doctoral candidate in conducting at Indiana University; Francesco Lecce-Chong, assistant conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra; and Joshua Weilerstein, assistant conductor of the New York Philharmonic. Solti U.S. Career Assistance Awards are given annually to American conductors age 35 or younger, to be used for career training and other activities that will help further their careers.
