Composer Milica Paranosic is winner of the American Composers Orchestra’s 2012 joint commission with LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. Paranosic’s work, which will feature the ACO performing with electronics and projections, will have its premiere on October 26, 2012 at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall. Born in Belgrade, Paranosic is based in New York City; classically trained, she describes herself as “composer/sound designer/conceptual and multimedia artist/educator and producer.” This is the fourth joint commission for LVMH and the ACO, which partnered in 2009 to create new orchestral works by emerging American composers. ACO also announced that its next Underwood New Music Readings will take place on June 1 and 2 at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in New York City, when ACO Music Director George Manahan will conduct works by Ryan Chase, Peter Fahey, Michael-Thomas Foumai, Paul Kerekes, Pin Hsin Lin, and Benjamin Taylor. The composers will receive feedback from Manahan and ACO principal musicians, as well as mentor composers Robert Beaser, Derek Bermel, Melinda Wagner, and Steven Stucky. At the readings, one of the six composers will also be awarded a $15,000 commission to write a new work to be performed by the ACO. The Underwood New Music Readings are part of EarShot, whose activities include new music readings and other composer development programs with orchestras around the country. EarShot is coordinated by ACO in collaboration with American Composers Forum, New Music USA, and the League of American Orchestras.
