The Albany Symphony Orchestra’s virtual 2020-21 season will begin on October 24 with a streamed performance of Michael Daugherty’s 2016 song cycle This Land Sings: Inspired by the Life and Times of Woody Guthrie, featuring the orchestra, mezzo-soprano Kristin Gornstein, and baritone Michael Maliakel, led by Music Director David Alan Miller. The event includes a pre-concert talk with Miller and Daugherty and a post-concert live Q&A with Daugherty and the performers. Six additional streamed concerts through April 2021 will feature standard repertoire and new music by composers including Andre Myers, Michael Torke, Viet Cuong, Jessie Montgomery, Caroline Shaw, Tyson Davis, Carlos Bandera, and Tanner Porter. The annual American Music Festival will take place on June 12, 2021 and feature newly commissioned works by Nina Shekhar and Alexis Lamb, plus music by Clarice Assad, Molly Joyce, and Christopher Theofanidis.
