Virginia’s Alexandria Symphony Orchestra is expanding its free ASO Sympatico afterschool music education program to an additional site beginning in September. The program currently has 130 students participating in six ensembles in its existing program at John Adams Elementary School, and will add a program for students at the Patrick Henry K-8 School this year with two afterschool ensembles daily, Monday through Thursday. The new site will include a choral ensemble with Orff instruments for grades 3 through 8 and a mixed strings, winds and percussion ensemble for students in grades 4 through 8. Programs at the school will be led by David Evans and Fred Montgomery. “We are very excited about bringing this experience to Patrick Henry,” said Patrick Henry Principal Ingrid Bynum. “As a school that values education through arts and music programming, this is the perfect fit for our community.”
