The city of Alexandria, Virginia will celebrate its 270th birthday on July 13 from 6 to 10 p.m. with a free outdoor concert including performances by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra at Oronoco Bay Park in the city’s Old Town district. NBC4 anchor Pat Lawson Muse will serve as emcee for the evening, DJ Steven Swann will kick off the event, and there will be free birthday cupcakes. Mayor Justin Wilson will speak, and there will be a poetry reading by Alexandria Poet Laureate KaNikki Jakarta. Music Director James Ross will conduct the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra in a program including movie themes, patriotic music, and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, with cannon support by the Presidential Salute Battery of the 3d United States Infantry Regiment (“The Old Guard”) and a fireworks display.
