The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra has announced the promotion of DARIUSZ SKORACZEWSKI from assistant principal cellist, a post he had held since 2001, to principal cellist following an extensive national audition process. He has performed as soloist with numerous orchestras including the Baltimore Symphony, and is a member of the Baltimore-based Monument Piano Trio. Skoraczewski is a past laureate in the Tchaikovsky Competition (Moscow), the Leonard Rose Competition (Washington, D.C.), and the Rostropovich Competition (Paris). A native of Poland, he received his early musical training in Warsaw, and subsequently earned his undergraduate degree at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University under the tutelage of cellist Stephen Kates.
