The Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra has named JOHN ROMMEL as principal trumpet and JUSTIN GINGRICH as principal timpani/percussion. In addition, J. PHILIP KETTLER has joined the orchestra’s cello section.

John Rommel becomes Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra’s principal trumpet after having served as regular guest principal there. A faculty member at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music since 1993, he was principal trumpet of the Louisville Orchestra from 1988 to 1996, where he recorded more than 30 works by contemporary composers. He has performed throughout the U.S. as well as internationally. In recent years, he has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra (including the orchestra’s three-week European tour in 2017), the Cincinnati Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Nashville Symphony, and Milwaukee Symphony. Since 215 he has been a member of the orchestra at the Strings Music Festival in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Principal Timpani/Percussion Justin Gingrich has performed with orchestras across the Midwest and Pennsylvania, among them the Chamber Symphony of Pittsburgh, the Fox Valley Symphony in Wisconsin, and Ohio’s Canton Symphony Orchestra. He holds a section percussion position with the Johnstown Symphony in Pennsylvania, and has performed with contemporary and chamber music ensembles in Pittsburgh. Gingrich has participated in the Aspen Music Festival, the Festival Orchestra NAPA and the Blackburn Music Academy at Festival Napa Valley, and the Peninsula Music Festival in Door County, Wisconsin.
