Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestras of Atlanta has announced the appointment of CHRIS THIBDEAU as music director of the organization and conductor of its senior ensemble, the Symphony Orchestra. The appointment is effective with the 2014-15 season, when he succeeds MARILYN SEELMAN, who held the post for two decades. Thibdeau, a cellist, completed his undergraduate studies at the Eastman School of Music, then received a graduate degree in conducting at the Cleveland Institute of Music. In addition to teaching cello privately in the Atlanta area, Thibdeau has served as associate conductor of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra and as conductor of the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Chamber Music Festival, and Atlanta Music Project Orchestra.
