Three new principal musicians have been announced by the Midland-Odessa (Tex.) Symphony and Chorale: NICHOLAS CONN, principal trombone; KATHERINE VELASQUEZ, principal flute; and ERIN WEBER, principal second violin. All three will join the orchestra at the start of the 2016-17 season.
Nicholas Conn has played trombone in the U.K.’s Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Opera North, and has appeared as a soloist throughout the U.S. and abroad. A native of San Antonio, Tex., he holds a master’s degree in music from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.
Katherine Velasquez, who trained in flute at Boston University and the University of Southern California (Los Angeles), has played flute with the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and in L.A.’s Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra, American Youth Symphony, and Colburn Symphony Orchestra.
Erin Weber has performed with the Lubbock (Tex.) Symphony Orchestra as acting concertmaster, and with the Amarillo (Tex.) Symphony as featured soloist. She holds a master’s degree in violin performance from Texas Tech University in Lubbock and a bachelor’s from Southwestern University (Georgetown, Tex.), where she served as co-concertmaster and as principal second violin.
