The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra has announced the appointment of JULIE ALBERS as principal cellist. She will begin her tenure as holder of the Bill and Hella Mears Hueg Chair in the 2015-16 season, but will join the SPCO for eight weeks this season. Albers has performed with the orchestra several times as guest principal cellist. A native of Longmont, Colorado, and currently residing in Atlanta, she is the winner of numerous awards including Grand Prize in the International Competition for Young Musicians in Douai, France. As a soloist she made her major orchestra debut with the Cleveland Orchestra in 1998, and has performed in recital and with orchestras throughout North America, Europe, Korea, Taiwan, Australia, and New Zealand. Also active as a teacher, Albers holds the Mary Jean and Charles Yates Cello Chair at Mercer University’s McDuffie Center for Strings in Macon, Georgia.
