In Texas, the Austin Symphony Orchestra has received a $1 million pledge from Austin arts patrons Claudette and David Hartman and the Hartman Foundation. The gift will endow the orchestra’s twelve-week series of summer parks concerts in perpetuity. The free series, which began in 2002, runs on Sunday evenings from June through August at 7:30 p.m. at Hartman Concert Park in front of the Long Center City Terrace. Each concert features members of the orchestra performing music ranging from light classical to big-band and popular selections. Claudette Hartman said in a statement, “It is our hope that these free and very informal outdoor events will provide an opportunity for Austinites to become acquainted—or-reacquainted—with a classical music experience at Austin’s new gathering place for the arts.” Claudette and David Hartman are longtime supporters of the Austin Symphony.
