To provide direct support to Baton Rouge Symphony musicians who have been affected by the recent flooding in Louisiana, the orchestra has launched a GoFundMe campaign. Baton Rouge Symphony Director of Development Miriam Overton writes, “The recent cataclysmic flooding in Louisiana has deeply affected our entire community. Your help is urgently needed for at least four musicians of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. Not only have they lost their homes, vehicles, and belongings, some have also lost their instruments. These instruments are the tools of their livelihood. To make matters worse, they have, due to the flood, lost job opportunities. For now, music classes in schools and private lessons just aren’t happening, weddings are postponed—many Baton Rouge area musicians are without work. Your generous support is needed urgently and immediately. It will be used to help these families with critical, immediate needs (food, clothing, shelter) and the restoration or replacement of their instruments. Your gift will not be used for organizational support or administration. It will be given directly to our musician families.” Visit the campaign page here.
