In Tuesday’s (1/4) San Jose Mercury News (California), Cheryl North writes, “On the horizon looms a genuine harbinger of hope as a group of the Bay Area’s advantaged young people band together to raise funds to benefit those less fortunate. … The event is the second annual Bay Area Youth Orchestra Festival, a BAYOF Hope Concert featuring 575 young musicians from six Bay Area youth orchestras.’ The concert takes place Sunday, January 16 at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, and will benefit several charitable local organizations focusing on disadvantaged and homeless youth. ‘Participating youth orchestras are the California Youth Symphony, the Oakland Youth Orchestra, the Peninsula Youth Orchestra, the Santa Rosa Symphony Youth Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Young People’s Symphony Orchestra of Berkeley. Each orchestra will take its place on the Davies stage and play about 10 minutes of music. The grand finale will be an encore during which 110 selected ‘all-star’ members of the six orchestras will play together as the Festival Orchestra under the direction of the Young People Symphony Orchestra’s music director and conductor, David Ramadanoff.”
