On April 21, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project will premiere The Legend of Cowherd and Weaver Girl by Paul De Ritis, led by Music Director Gil Rose and featuring percussionist Beibei Wang as soloist. The program of music by East Asian composers will also feature Huang Ro’s Unscrolled with piano soloist Vivian Choi and the world premieres of Yu-Hui Chang’s Pixelandia and Lei Liang’s A Thousand Mountains, A Million Streams. Beibei Wang, who received master’s degrees from China’s Central Conservatory of Music and the U.K.’s Royal Academy of Music, is known for her work on traditional Chinese instruments. She has previously performed as a soloist in Tan Dun’s Organic Music Trilogy (Water Concerto, Paper Concerto and Earth Concerto) as well as in her own compositions and music by Tang Jianping, Zhou Long, Guan Naizhong, and Minoru Miki.
