Cellist Joshua Roman and violinist Robert Gupta are among the recently announced 2011 TED Fellows, named by the TED nonprofit organization devoted to finding young innovators from around the world. Roman became principal cellist of the Seattle Symphony at age 22, before going on to pursue a solo career. Gupta, selected as a Senior TED Fellow, joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2007 at age 19. Roman joins sixteen other TED 2011 Fellows from fields including computer science, architecture, film, dance, and electrical engineering; the Fellows will meet from February 28 to March 4 at TED’s conference in Long Beach, California featuring TED’s eighteen-minute talks, music, comedy, dance, short talks, and video. Gupta is one of 20 inaugural Senior TED Fellows, selected from among the 65 Fellows that attended TED2009 and TEDGlobal 2009; Senior Fellows attend five additional TED conferences, participate in five Senior Fellows pre-conferences, and may be asked to deliver a full-length talk and have that talk posted on TED.com.
