“The Williamson County Symphony Orchestra brought the gift of music to the Fort Hood community Saturday night at Howze Auditorium with a free performance themed ‘Holiday Memories,’ ” writes Dave Larsen in Thursday’s (12/13) Fort Hood Sentinel (TX). “This is the 14th annual holiday concert performed at Fort Hood for the troops and their families, and is something John Gordon, the orchestra’s chairman of the board and founder, is very proud of.… Approximately 800 Fort Hood community members came out for the concert.… Spirited is one way to sum up Saturday’s performance. One of the funnier moments of the concert was when Dr. Thomas ‘Doc’ Rainey, the orchestra’s director of music and conductor for the evening, brought up Sgt. Brandon Bridges as a guest conductor for the Christmas classic, ‘Sleigh Ride.’ Bridges, a trombone player with the 1st Cavalry Division Band, earlier played holiday tunes with a brass ensemble in the entryway of the auditorium prior to the concert.… For the Williamson County Symphony Orchestra, reaching out to the Fort Hood community for the past 14 years has been a labor of love. ‘It’s just our way,’ Gordon said, ‘of saying, “thank you,” to the troops.’ ”
