“There’s no need to get dressed up, sshh the kids, or anything else stereotypical of symphony orchestra acts for Pops in the Park this weekend. You just have to like fireworks, music, face paintings or baseball fields,” writes Rob Boscamp in Friday’s Corpus Christi Caller-Times (Texas). “ ‘Whatever anyone’s expectations of symphony orchestra, throw it out the window,’ said Robert Reed, Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra executive director. The Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra will wrap up its season with popular and classical pieces … during Pops at the Park at Whataburger Field on Saturday. The orchestra will perform alongside a synchronized light show from the Harbor Bridge. Pre-concert children’s activities include an ‘instrument petting zoo’ and face painting….  Reed said the fireworks spectacular draws about 7,000 people to the event by the end of the night…. Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra Director Brendan Townsend will return to guest [conduct] and have fun with the audience and orchestra brethren.… During last year’s show, Townsend wanted to see which side of the ballpark was loudest. ‘We had one half of the ballpark clapping,’ Townsend said, ‘and then the other half of the ballpark clapping.… It was just a lot of fun.’ ”
