“After seven years of guiding the ship through occasionally turbulent waters, the chief executive officer of Elgin Symphony Orchestra is retiring,” writes Amanda Marrazzo in Wednesday’s (5/29) Elgin Courier-News (IL). “David Bearden will retire on June 1, the last day of the current season. Executive Director David Conroy will assume his responsibilities while a national search is conducted for a new CEO…. Prior to being appointed as CEO, Bearden served on the ESO Board of Directors. During Bearden’s time with the symphony orchestra, the program was honored as the Illinois Orchestra of the Year for a fourth time by the Illinois Council of Orchestras…. During that same tenure, the council named Andrew Grams music director of the year and the late Sterling ‘Stu’ Ainsworth received the volunteer of the year award, according Ashley Schoen, the ESO’s senior director of marketing.”
