The inaugural season of ChamberFEST Cleveland is set to open on June 27 with a program of Mozart, Shostakovich, Lutoslawski, and Mendelssohn at the Cleveland Institute of Music’s Mixon Hall. The festival from June 27 to July 1 is the creation of Franklin Cohen, principal clarinet in the Cleveland Orchestra, and his daughter, Diana Cohen, concertmaster of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra in Virginia. Other festival venues throughout metro Cleveland include the Wine Spot, a local wine retailer, which will host “Movie Night,” featuring Matan Porat’s score to the 1924 silent film Sherlock Jr. starring Buster Keaton, and Shostakovich’s Two Pieces for Octet, Op. 11; the Harkness Chapel at Case Western Reserve University, where musicians will perform works by Haydn, Stravinsky, Debussy, and Schoenberg; and the historic Dunham Tavern Museum, venue for a program including Beethoven’s Piano Trio in E flat and Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet.
